Blossom and her little blooms…
Blossom was transferred from the local animal shelter. Shelter staff found her abandoned and VERY pregnant. She got sick while at animal control. Animal control staff had fallen in love with Blossom, who due to a combination of the time she spent in the shelter and her sickness was slated for euthanasia. A desperate animal control staff contacted Pet Network less than an hour before Blossom was to be euthanized.
Pet Network staff rushed to save her. Out of room in our shelter, Blossom was set up in our administrative offices. Although the shelter thought she was full term, two long weeks went by before Blossom (during a staff meeting no less) decided to have her babies. Seven beautiful babies later, Blossom became the best momma ever. Although we lost two of her babies (the babies got her cold) the remaining five are healthy, happy, and gorgeous kittens waiting for a home.
Elvis and Vegas
Two huge mastiffs were abandoned in Pet Network’s boarding facility. Needless to say, almost 300 lbs. of dog is challenging to find a home for but we did it! Elvis found a wonderful home with a bunch of children to keep him occupied and playing non-stop (not to mention a bossy little dachshund to keep him in line). Vegas found a fantastic home with another mastiff (and he gets to go to work with dad every day). Both dogs spent more than 5 months looking for a home, and were adopted only a couple of weeks apart. Our unofficial mascots are missed but we are SO happy they both found loving homes.
Annie
AnnieAnnie, a bull-terrier mix whose owner died while she was boarded at Pet Network has finally found a home! Annie had been in and out of many foster homes during her long stay at Pet Network. Preferring to be an only dog and being a bull terrier mix, it was challenging to find the right home for Annie. She prevailed and found a wonderful home where she is loved and adored. We are told Annie is a model dog and is a perfect fit for her new family!
Mattie
Never guess where he got his name? Mattie, a Lhasa Apso, picked up by animal control in Washoe was a mess when he came into Pet Network. Although we knew Mattie’s coat had to come off, none of us knew how bad the matting was until Mattie was anestisized and we began the long process of shaving him down.
It took three staff members almost four hours to take off the more than three pounds of hair from Mattie. Only three days after his shave down Mattie found his forever home. Sheila and Mattie are two peas in a pod and Mattie is fully recovered, not only from our shave but from his terrible neglect.
Alphie
Alphie was transferred from Fallon Animal Services after being found wandering down a lonely highway. He was passed over time after time because of his size. This gentle giant was in danger of euthanasia because of how long he sat, unadopted. Pet Network staff arrived to transfer other dogs from Fallon, and immediately fell in love with Alphie. We were heartbroken when weeks, then months went bye and Alphie was again passed over because of his size. Finally, our wonderful volunteers Frank and Robin took Alphie out for a stroll, where he ran into his future family. They immediately fell in love with our giant teddy bear of a dog. After not being able to get Alphie off of their minds for days, they emailed Pet Network staff and submitted their application! Alphie went home the next day. He now has a wonderful life with his 4-legged friends, and two wonderful new parents. Every dog truly has his day!
Moe (Moe-Moe)
Moe came to Pet Network from the Gabbs, Nevada area where he was one of almost 150 dogs found in horrid conditions, kept by an animal hoarder. Moe was under weight, under socialized, and incapable of accepting any type of human contact. For almost a year Moe stayed at Pet Network where our dedicated and kind-hearted staff took him under their wing. At first even getting Moe to allow himself to be touched was a chore, then came leashes, then grooming and close-contact with humans. Eventually Alison, one of our "dog-mojo queens" got Moe's trust. Alison found Moe a foster home with children, dogs and two wonderful parents that had an amazing amount of patience, love and kindness to give. Moe is now happy and healthy, learning, finally how to be a family dog. We miss him terribly, but are so happy that Moe is in his forever home. Thanks Alison!
